Brazil’s national team medical staff have provided a positive update on Neymar’s fitness, revealing that the forward is recovering well from a Grade 2 calf muscle tear ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 34-year-old underwent an MRI scan on Monday, with results showing encouraging progress in his rehabilitation programme.
According to a statement released by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Neymar’s recovery remains on schedule despite uncertainty over his availability for Brazil’s opening World Cup fixture against Morocco at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Saturday.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared the update on his X account, quoting the CBF statement.
“Neymar underwent MRI on Monday and tests showed a good evolution in his treatment — within the expected parameters,” the statement read.
It added: “He will follow the recovery preparation process planned by the medical commission of the Brazilian National Team.”
Despite the encouraging news, Brazil have yet to confirm whether Neymar will be fit enough to feature against Morocco.

The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star has struggled with fitness issues in recent years and has featured in only half of Santos’ matches across all competitions this season.
Neymar was initially ruled out for two to three weeks after sustaining the injury last month and subsequently missed Brazil’s warm-up games against Panama and Egypt.
His inclusion in Carlo Ancelotti’s World Cup squad raised eyebrows, having not represented the Selecao since 2023 due to a series of injuries.
However, Ancelotti recently expressed confidence that the experienced forward would be available for either Brazil’s opening match or their second group-stage fixture, stressing that there is no need to rush his return.
Neymar is set to feature in his fourth World Cup campaign after playing a key role in Brazil’s appearances at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 tournaments.
